Marquis University - Living the Dream.

Marquis University Los Cabos was created in 2003 when Marquis Los Cabos resort first opened. We decided to be different during our recruiting process so that our work force at Marquis Los Cabos would have a career, understand luxury, live it, be involved in the environment and be responsible adults at home and work.

The education program at Marquis University starts with the recruitment of our personnel. In the application form we ask questions such as: school degree, how many members of your family work, how many children do you have, where do you live, do you have electricity, do you have water, do you have a house made of cement, do you have furniture, do your children go to school, do you have other members of your family living with you, etc. By knowing all of those things, we are better prepared as a company to guide our personnel and make sure they understand the importance of getting an education. They can make a career at Marquis, make more money, learn new skills, and have a better life. But in order to achieve that, they have to enroll in Marquis University and get their degree.

They register through our Human Resources department with the Education System in Mexico called “SEP” and have teachers, books, and counselors depending on the level to assist each of our employees. This is paid for by the hotel and has no cost to the employee. Since we opened in 2003, we have had 20 employees per year from departments ranging from maintenance and housekeeping to kitchen and gardening who have received their diplomas from primary school to Bachelor degrees. Their performance and achievements are registered in their “Passport to Success, “ a document we created for each employee.

For those who received their bachelor diploma, they receive a private ceremony: we give them the uniform as in a college graduate, call the press and celebrate with them. They feel proud and, above all, show the way to others that anything is possible. Once they have their diplomas in hand, a world of opportunities arises and they can transfer to other departments, grow to another position within their own department and even transfer to our Sister Property in Mexico City.  [Top]

Marquis and the Environment.

Taking care of the environment is a special part our resort philosophy. It requires a huge investment, but it has been possible because of the passion and belief of our Board of Directors. As a 100% Mexican owned company we have a responsibility towards our community, country and planet.
  • Full Moon Party.

On a perfect balmy Baja night, the surf is crashing near your feet and Marquis Los Cabos will turn out all the lights of the hotel, illuminating the resort and beach only with candles. This helps reduce our energy consumption 25%. This Full Moon Party event takes place every month on each full moon.
  • Turtle Protection Program.

Our beach is recognized by the environmental authorities as a protective turtle beach. Each year, we have the great honor to receive several turtles who have decided to lay their eggs on our beach. We protect the eggs until it is time to hatch and the baby turtles to be freed. When that happens, guests and employees are called upon to assist in the release of the baby turtles for their new life in the sea.
  • Green Hotel Practices.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of our land and sea, Marquis Los Cabos is dedicated to preserving our environment by implementing eco-friendly “green” practices and recycling programs that reduce our water, gas, electricity and paper consumption and waste. Our resort uses ecologically safe laundry products from Nopal, and through our recycling efforts have sent tons of paper, plastic, and aluminum to a certified recycle center in Los Cabos.  [Top]

Community Support

  • Los Cabos Children.

Marquis Los Cabos supports Los Niños Del Capitan (The Captain's Children), an organization that takes care of children from 1 to 5 years old that come from low resource families who need somewhere to leave their children while they work. The children are looked after by qualified staff, in a healthy environment for their development, giving providing services such as pre-school education (they are now registered in the SEP), human values, social work and well balanced meals. They also have volunteers who support them with medical, dental, psychological attention, and English. They also provide workshops for parents and teachers so they can benefit and assist the children. For more information about Children’s Foundation visit www.loscaboschildren.org.
  • Art of Giving.

Marquis Los Cabos supports a local art gallery that gives back to the community - 10% of its sales to Liga MAC and 10% to Zimbabwe where the art originates from to buy medicine for Malaria and Cholera. Liga MAC is a registered Mexican charity that helps less fortunate children and members of the Los Cabos community through fundraising events. Because many families cannot afford uniforms, books, gymnasium clothing and back packs, Liga M.A.C. has started a program that pays for new uniforms and supplies for any child entering high school and will continue to provide these items as long as they maintain their grades. They also offer art classes for students, seminars to encourage children to continue in school, Spanish classes for illiterate adults, English classes for those in the service industries, sewing classes, etc. For more information about Liga MAC please visit www.ligamac.com.
  • The Path of Life.

Our uniforms are embroidered by a community called Mazahuas, 2 hours away from Mexico City. This village 6 years ago was dying, they had no work. Our owner’s wife contributed money to revive their industry. This village today exports their pieces and has enough money to feed their children, send them to school and have a decent life. The design of the embroidery is called “The Path of Life” or in Spanish “El Camino de la Vida”, the philosophy Marquis Los Cabos has lived by since opening.
  • Group Credit For Charity.

The Marquis Los Cabos family wants to help companies and groups have their meeting or event and give back to their favorite charity at the same time. To do this, we are pleased to present our new incentive credit for charity. We will offer $1 to the charity of your choice for every $7 dollars spent at the resort on food and beverage. For example, if your group spends $200,000 in food & beverage, $28,571.43 will be awarded to your designated charity or favorite cause. It’s that easy!   [Top]
